The Mazda RX 8 is finally here. Official Mazda distributor finally joins every other grey importer in offering the Mazda RX 8. But what’s unique here is a full three year warranty and that the car in question is the latest facelifted model that has been ‘climatised’ to our conditions besides carrying various improvements.
First launched in 2003, the four door, four seat coupe is powered by Mazda’s Renesis rotary engine that produces 212bhp (at 7500rpm and 211Nm of torque from 1.3 litres.
The engine has undergone various changes such as the switch from a mechanical gas seal lubrication system to an electromagnetic unit, with three nozzles from two, improving lubrication and extending rotor seal life and fuel efficiency. The RX 8 also has a new system that prevents over revving when ‘variable red zones’ a self preservation feature that prolongs engine life.
Chassis rigidity has been upped, while tweaks to the front double wishbone/rear multi link suspension is said to improve handling and ride comfort.
The facelift RX8 can be recognised by enlarged central and side air intakes, sharper and larger HD headlamps ( with washer), dual circular LED taillights and a more angular rear bumper plus larger diameter dual exhaust pipes. Inside, there’s wider, more supportive leather seats that match the body colour while the driver gets eight way electric adjustment with three memory settings. Other goodies are a nine speaker Boss stereo and eight air bags.
